Technique

  1. What is the best technique for ice fishing your plastic tails?
  2. We subscribe to the "it should be dropping or rising" school of thought. With a real aggressive bite it doesn't really matter, but most days it works best to drop it slowly to the fishes level or raise it away from their level, stopping and trying to hold it still every few inches. Don't ever really just jig/wiggle it at the same level. In the spring the Crappies move up under the ice but for most of the winter you are fishing near the bottom. Most of our favorite spots are under 12' deep. I peel out enough line to find the bottom, then raise the tip of rod 1/2 way off the bottom and slowly drop the rod in 4-6 inch drops with a 1-2 second pause between drops. This gets the spring bobber (use a spring bobber unless you are using 1# test and #10-#12 jigs where the line is only taught when a fish bites) oscillating and very light hits can be easily detected in any change in spring bobber movement. On a light bite, you can pinch, cut, or bite off 1/4 to 1/2 inch of the fat end of the Whip to make it shorter.

  3. What jig or lure do you have best results with these plastics through the ice?
  4. We usually start with a #8 in deep water and #10 teardrop spoon (1/100oz) in shallow water and a whole Whip. It is easier to fish with a heavier bait. If nothing is taking, then #12 teardrop or moon glow and a Whip with 1/4 - 1/2 inch bit off the thick end (to make it smaller and shorter).

  5. How are these different than the Custom Jigs N Spins or Little Atoms Wedgies?
  6. They are similar. The Whip is about the same length but the base is thicker and easier to keep on the hook. It also is perkier on the hook than the Little Atom version because it has more of a taper, and therefore is easier to have stick out and fished horizontal.

  7. How do you rig them on your jig/hook?
  8. The idea is you want the Whip to be horizontal as much as possible. It is very flexible and sags/droops in an arch when on the hook in air, so usually you try to put it on the hook as horizontal so it sticks strait out. The Whip floats so it will lie flat to be horizontal when in the water.

  9. Do you ever rig them with live bait (minnows/wax worms/spikes)?
  10. Most people that have evolved to plastics rarely if ever use waxies or spikes. If fishing in an area with large crappies, jumbo pearch, or walleyes, fish the Whip on one pole and put out a tip-down or dead-stick with a minnow to add some action. A red Whip with the minnow adds some flash and seems to attract more fish.

  11. Can you use The Whip in the summer even though it was developed for ice fishing?
  12. Sure! Our Whip is large enough to put on a 1/32oz jig and fished instead of tube jigs or other summer time plastics. We experimented on open water last summer with great results.

  13. What colors works best for crappie?
  14. Each lake seems to pick its own favorite, but I wouldn't be caught on the ice without Black, Red, and Orange.

  15. What colors works best for big bluegill?
  16. Every lake and condition is different, but many ice jiggers start with Red. Some start with Black if getting an early start and it is still pretty dark out. One of the inventors of The Whip uses White in low light conditions but leads with Orange or Purple in the day.

  17. What color jigs work best with The Whip?
  18. There is an infinite number of jig and Whip color combinations. We are always testing and trying new Whip colors so we like to use neutural jig colors like black, white, or unpainted silver.

  19. What is this SL-B scent infused in the soft plastic?
  20. SL-B is our own proprietary fish attractant that is added to our baits while the plastic is a liquid. SL-B becomes one with the plastic and can never wash off. The more fish you catch with the same Whip, the more SL-B scent it releases.

Ordering

  1. When will my order ship?
  2. Usually the same day! If you purchase online (with PayPal) before 2:30pm your order will probably ship the same day. If you pay with an eCheck, we have to wait for the eCheck to clear and that might take 2-5 days. We use the United States Postal Service First Class Mail so once shipped, you can expect your order in 2-5 days. You may also choose USPS Priority Mail for 1-3 day shipping.

  3. I don't like to purchase on the Internet. Can I mail you a check instead?
  4. Absolutely. Here is what you need to do...

  5. Can I place an order over the phone?
  6. We are not setup to take payment over the phone. Clicking the 'Add To Cart' buttons on this website is the easiest way. If you don't want to pay online with PayPal, then a check can be mailed. 7. How much will shipping be?
  8. Shopping online is very efficient and convenient for both the seller and buyer. You don't have to drive to the store, but you have to pay shipping. To make this beneficial for you, we keep our shipping costs as low as possible. We don't make any money on shipping and of course loose money when Free Shipping kicks in. Here are our shipping rates in US Dollars (USD):

Order Total (USD) Standard Shipping Expedited Shipping
      0.01 to 49.99   3.95 USD   7.95 USD
      50.00 to 74.99   FREE   4.95 USD
75.00 and up   FREE   5.95 USD

  9. Can you combine shipping for two orders?
  10. Yes, provided the orders were placed around the same time and the first order hasn't shipped yet. It happens sometimes that an order is placed and then the customer remembers something and wants to order another small item. Go ahead and place the second order. Paypal will calculated and add shipping charges to the second order. When we come across this situation we will always try to package the orders together (same shipping address obviously) and refund the difference to you. PayPal doesn't do it automatically so this is a manual process. You can always email us a reminder to combine shipping. Our goal is to break even on shipping and will gladly refund any unnecessary shipping charges to you.

  11. Is there sales tax on my purchase?
  12. Only for Wisconsin residents. 5.5% sales tax is charged when the ship to address is in Wisconsin, because we are located in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin.

  13. I own my own bait store, can I buy The Whip wholesale?
  14. Our online sale price for the 100-pack is already a wholesale price. However, we do have different packaging (with UPC code) of individual 10-packs to sell in stores. Wholesale orders must be over $50.00 and can only be sold to established retail stores and bait shops. Please contact us if you are an interested tackle/bait shop.

  15. What is Rack 'N Fin, LLC?
